Dolly's The Tour Collection falls back off the top 20 British country compilation albums this week, down from No. 19, Friday's charts revealed, while Emmylou Harris' Original Album Series, Volume 1 (with two Dolly covers, one track with Dolly harmony and one track with Trio harmony by Dolly and Linda Ronstadt) loses five places to No. 16 and her Original Album Series, Vol. 2 (featuring one track with Dolly harmony and two tracks with Trio harmony) drops five spots to No. 17 on the same chart.

Disabled Man Praises Dollywood
Knoxville TV station WATE this week offered an uplifting piece about a disabled guest who was able to ride multiple coasters at Dollywood, saying other theme parks were not as accommodating. Watch it here.

April 28:
Dolly's Parade Float Celebrates Lumberjacks, Be Live Streamed
Dolly announced on Wednesday that instead of riding a Dollywood float – usually touting the park's newest addition – in her annual Pigeon Forge parade, this year she will ride a float celebrating her newest dinner theatre in the city, Dolly Parton's Lumberjack Adventure. In addition, the May 6 parade will be live streamed online via Facebook's new live function that became available to the public in late January. The stream will appear on both Dolly's and the restaurant's feeds from a camera on Dolly's float which will show Dolly, the crowds along the parade route and the mountains. (The 2009 parade was live streamed on the now-defunct website thesmokies.tv, but that was a more stationary view of all of the floats as they passed by rather than a view of the crowds from Dolly's perspective.) A Facebook event for the live stream has been created here. In related news, The Bristol Herald Courier reports here that the restaurant will host a job fair on Monday. The renovated and revamped show is expected to debut later this month and is selling tickets for attendees on its website starting May 21.

April 27:
Porter & Dolly Back On Album Charts
The new Cracker Barrell compilation disc from Dolly and Porter Wagoner, The Right Combination, debuts on the country albums chart this week at No. 45, the May 7 Billboard charts released Tuesday revealed. On the same tally, Don Henley's Cass County, featuring the Dolly duet "When I Stop Dreaming," loses 10 places to No. 47 in its 30th chart week.

Trio Highlights Cover Art Set
The cover art, at left (click on it for a larger view), was released on Tuesday for the one-CD highlights version of the upcoming Trio project, My Dear Companion: Selections From The Trio Collection. That album comes out from Rhino Records on Sept. 9 along with the full three-CD The Complete Trio Collection Deluxe, vinyl release of Trio II and vinyl two-LP set of bonus tracks as Farther Along.

Dollywood Nears Coaster Opening
Dollywood has announced that new coaster Lightning Rod has resumed testing as part of its commissioning process and hopes to be open for guests to ride "within a few weeks," according to Knoxville TV station WBIR here.

April 26:
Three More Pure & Simple Tour Dates Uncovered
Dolly's management on Monday formally announced the first leg of her Pure & Simple Tour, officially confirming 14 shows, all but one of which had been already announced by the venues and reported here over the past month. The new date, June 22 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., goes on pre-sale and VIP package sale via Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. Wednesday with general public sales starting 10 a.m. Friday. The press release also noted that two additional dates will be announced in the near future for the June first leg, bringing its total dates to 16 out of the 60+ total for the tour through December. (The press release also incorrectly noted that her future Canadian dates to be announced constitute "her first trek into Canada in more than two decades;" however, while she has not toured Canada extensively in more than two decades, she has included select Canadian cities on several of her recent tours – three on 2008's Backwoods Barbie Tour, four on 2005's Vintage Tour and one on 2004's Hello I'm Dolly Tour, three out of the six North American tours she has headlined since 2002.) In addition, two more dates for what are likely the second (late summer) and third (early fall) legs of the tour were also revealed by the venues on Monday: Sept. 21 at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash., outside of Seattle, which go on sale via Ticketfly.com and the venue box office starting at 10 a.m. Friday (noting that VIP seats will also be offered), and July 23 at the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, S.D., which features a Grand Rewards presale and "fan presale" starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, VIP packages beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday and general public sales at 10 a.m. Friday. In related news, Dolly on Monday held a conference call with a few journalists to discuss the upcoming Pure & Simple CD, tour and more, revealing one more track from the album: "I'm Standing Outside Your Door" (which is added to previously-announced "I Will Never Not Love You," "Pure & Simple," "I'm 16," "Kiss It And Make It All Better," "Tomorrow Is Forever," "Say Forever You'll Be Mine" and "Mama"). She was also asked about artists cancelling their shows in North Carolina and Mississippi in protest of those states' recent anti-LGBT laws, explaining: ""Oh, I've been seein' all that commotion. A lot of people are canceling shows and all that. I have no plans to cancel the show. I think I serve better from the stage. I think everybody should be treated great and with respect and everybody knows that about me. I can address that from the stage . . . Through the years everybody has known that I have an open, generous heart and I believe that all people should be treated with respect. I really don't like to get caught up into controversial issues, and I certainly don't think it's fair to the public. I can address whatever my thoughts are, if need be, from the stage." Dolly is among the prominent Smoky Mountain women profiled and interviewed for a new book, No Place For The Weary Kind: Women Of The Smokies. The book by Courtney Lix is published by the Great Smoky Mountains Association, a fundraising partner for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. April 21:
Columbus Sales Date, Phili Pre-Sale Announced
Midwestern fans have been waiting since March for tickets to go on sale for Dolly's Aug. 2 engagement at the Ohio State Fair in Columbus, the first of the now-20 announced dates on her approximately-60-city Pure & Simple Tour. Ticketmaster on Wednesday revealed the public sale date for the show will be noon Saturday, May 14. In addition, the site added VIP presales and an American Express presale starting at 10 a.m. Thursday for her June 15 Philadelphia show. Finally, CNN's Money section is noting her here among the artists playing in Mississippi and/or North Carolina who have not responded to the network's inquiries about their plans to perform in the states after they implemented discriminatory laws aimed at harming LGBT persons.

April 20:
N.J., Pa. Shows Added To Pure & Simple Tour
Two more shows were added to Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour on Tuesday: June 15 in Philadelphia, Pa., and June 26 in New Jersey. Tickets for the Pennsylvania show at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts are listed on Ticketmaster to go on public sale at 10 a.m. Eastern Saturday. The New Jersey show at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel is listed on Live Nation as having general public ticket sales starting 10 a.m. Saturday but also has VIP packages and Citibank card customer presales which started Tuesday.

Dolly's 1976-77 series was back on the Get TV network this week with the episodes featuring Lynn Anderson and Tennessee Ernie Ford airing Monday with repeats at midnight and 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

April 16:
Indiana Show Added To Tour
The 18th date of Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour was announced Friday: Aug. 10 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. Ticketmaster shows media, venue and promoter presales starting at 10 a.m. Central Thursday as well as VIP sales at that time. Seats will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Central time next Friday. Also, Ticketmaster updated that her Nevada show will offer VIP seats starting April 26 with public sales starting April 29 instead of the previously-announced sale date of this Friday. In related news, The Traverse Ticker spoke here with the director of the Interlochen arts center in Interlochen, Mich., who relayed their difficulty in securing Dolly for their venue. In December, he said he was working on scheduling her, and in February they were still holding a date for her, but by March they had given her management a deadline to tell them yes or no but when the deadline passed without an answer they had to release the date and end negotiations to try and bring her to the venue.

April 14:
Stella: Dolly Nearly Died Last Year
Dolly was much sicker last year than she made herself out to be, according to an interview by her sister Stella this week. Talking about her Dolly tribute album Mountain Songbird: A Sister's Tribute and the film Dolly Parton's Coat Of Many Colors, Stella revealed the reason Dolly was absent from the shooting: "what people didn't know at the time was that Dolly was quite ill in the hospital with kidney stones and sepsis, which is what we just lost Patty Duke from.  We almost lost Dolly and no one knew it at the time, which was quite stressful." The National Enquirer had shortly thereafter published a story saying Dolly had a stomach cancer scare, to which she took the highly unusual step of responding to a tabloid report by saying it was just kidney stones. Tennessee Gets Funny Or Die Commercial
Dolly's Dixie Stampede dinner theater gets a cameo appearance in the latest in a series of parody commercials by the comedy website Funny Or Die in response to discriminatory laws being passed throughout the South, with the latest being sent to the Tennessee governor by the state legislature. Dolly's venue shows up near the end of the clip when the narrator talks about the circus that the state government has become. Actor Says 'Coat' Sequel To Film This July

LA, NY, Nevada Concerts Announced
Three additional concerts in Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour were announced on Tuesday: June 25 in New York City, Sept. 30 at Laughlin, Nev.; and Oct. 1 in Los Angeles. VIP packages and a pre-sale for American Express cardholders began at noon Tuesday for the New York show at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens via Ticketfly.com (ranging from $40 to $170) with a 10 a.m. Saturday sale to the general public (although Ticketmaster also lists tickets but has a 10 a.m. Eastern Friday public sale with seats listed at $110 and $258). Ticketmaster on Tuesday listed the Laughlin Event Center show in Nevada with a 10 a.m. Pacific time Friday public sale date and ticket prices between $64 and $350. The Los Angeles show at the Hollywood Bowl goes on sale to the public via Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. Pacific time Monday for $35 to $275, although media accounts also indicate an American Express pre-sale starting at 10 a.m. Thursday. In addition, tickets.com on Tuesday added a page for tickets to her June 8 show at Wolf Trap, showing they go on public sale at 10 a.m. Eastern April 23. Pollstar on Tuesday profiled the tour as announced thus far (although their list is missing the Spokane concert announced and reported here Monday night) here. Finally, NBC News reports here that a new group has formed called North Carolina Needs You to encourage entertainers, including Dolly who is to play there June 3, to keep their planned performances in the state but use their concerts to speak out against the state's discriminatory laws (as Gregg Allman and Jimmy Buffett are doing) and/or donate their proceeds to local LGBT charities (as comedian Joel McHale did a few days ago) instead of cancelling shows like Bruce Springsteen did.

New Dolly Tribute Released

N.Y., Wash., Third Ohio Shows Announced
Three additional dates on Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour were announced on Monday: June 10 near Cleveland, Ohio; June 12 near Buffalo, N.Y.; and the first revealed show for the tour's West Coast leg on Sept. 22 in Spokane, Wash. Tickets for the Washington show, at Northwest Quest Casino's Pepsi Outdoor Concert Series, go on pre-sale for members of the casino's Camas rewards program at 6 a.m. Friday and to the general public at 8:30 a.m. Saturday via the venue's website here. Tickets for the Buffalo show, at the Artpark Outdoor Amphitheatre here, start at $22 for those who bring their own chairs for general admission, $52 for grass bowl general admission with chairs provided, $77 for front of stage general admission with chairs provided, and $77 for reserved seating with chairs provided, and they go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday at the box office and online via tickets.com. Also, VIP packages with backstage tours are $575 and those with meet-and-greets are $1,875 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Tickets for the Cleveland show, at Hard Rock Rocksino here, go on pre-sale for Hard Rock (presale code Rockon) at 10 a.m. Thursday and to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster. In other tour news, given Bruce Springsteen's cancellation of Sunday's concert at the Greensboro, N.C., Coliseum – where Dolly is scheduled to play on the tour June 3 – to protest the state's recent anti-LGBT law, some observers are suggesting she likewise cancel her show at the venue in protest as well. Dollywood Passholder Presale Coming June 15
The presale date for Dollywood season passholders at Dolly's Imagination Library benefit concert in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., on her Pure & Simple Tour has been revealed: June 15. As was previously reported, tickets (if they are not sold out by that time) for the Nov. 15 engagement will be released for public sale on July 1. Tickets for her June 28 Pittsburgh concert go on sale Saturday via Ticketmaster, while several other cities went on public sale Friday.

'Cross Your Mind' Single From Trio Collection Released
In advance of the Sept. 9 release of The Complete Trio Collection Deluxe three-CD set (and My Dear Companion: Selections From The Trio Collection one-CD version, vinyl release of Trio II, and vinyl two-LP set of bonus tracks as Farther Along), Rhino Records has released the 1994 alternate take of "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" with Dolly singing lead instead of Emmylou Harris as a digital single. Dolly's Wolf Trap Concert Confirmed
Three weeks after word of the concert was spilled by a D.C.-area radio station and immediately deleted, Wolf Trap on Thursday finally announced Dolly's June 8 concert at the Vienna, Va., venue. Wolf Trap members may purchase tickets now and they go on sale to the general public April 23. Don't forget that tickets for her Cincinnati, Atlanta, North Carolina and West Virginia dates all go on sale to the general public on Friday.

'USA Today': Lightning Rod May Open Late April
USA Today profiled the new season at Dollywood on Thursday, giving the first estimate of when Lightning Rod may open, saying park officials hope the new ride will run by late April. Read the piece here.

Columbus, Ohio, artist Paul Richmond posted a cute video in a new series "Painting With Friends" where they make a painting of Dolly and include a story about their visit to Dollywood to possibly paint a mural. Watch it here.

Another 'Pure & Simple' Track Revealed

In Memoriam: Merle Haggard
Country legend Merle Haggard passed away Wednesday from pneumonia at age 79. He and Dolly had a long-standing relationship throughout their respective careers. Upon learning of his death, Dolly said: "We've lost one of the greatest writers and singers of all time. His heart was as tender as his love ballads. I loved him like a brother. Rest easy, Merle." Haggard was good friends with Dolly and Porter Wagoner throughout their partnership, and after the duo's professional split he toured with Dolly in 1974 and 1975. Haggard recorded several Dolly songs in the 1970s including a No. 1 on "Kentucky Gambler" and album cuts "In The Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad)," "My Love Affair With Trains," "The Seeker" and "Lord Hold My Hand." Dolly returned the favor covering his "You'll Always Be Special To Me" on The Bargain Store, "Life's Like Poetry" on All I Can Do and "Today I Started Loving You Again" on Treasures. Haggard admitted in several memoirs and biographies that during the 1970s he had a deep but unrequited romantic love for Dolly and wrote his hit "Always Wanting You" about her.

April 6:
Cincinnati Concert Added To Pure & Simple Tour
The 10th confirmed concert of Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour was announced on Tuesday: June 11 at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati's outdoor venue, The Shoe. (The venue's name will likely be changed in June when the casino's name changes to Jack Cincinnati.) As best as your webmaster can determine, this is an outdoor venue with a small reserved seating area in front of the stage and a much larger standing-room-only general admission lawn. All shows are rain or shine, 21-and-over-only, and blankets or chairs are prohibited. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Eastern Friday on the casino's website here. In addition, Dolly's official website now has four of the 10 confirmed concerts listed here and her official music website on Tuesday posted seven of the 10 confirmed dates here.

New Dolly Documentary Released Online
Entertain Me Productions on Tuesday released a one-hour documentary called Dolly Parton: Queen Of Country, which appears to consist of various television interviews and red carpet appearances combined with a narrator's voice-over. The online documentary is available here for rental or purchase.

Four Concerts, Meet-And-Greets Announced For Pure & Simple
Four more dates and VIP packages that include meet-and-greets were announced Monday for Dolly's Pure & Simple Tour, bringing the 60+ date tour to nine confirmed performances thus far. The new shows are June 3 at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.; June 4 at Infinite Energy Center in Duluth, Ga., outside of Atlanta; June 7 at Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.V.; and June 28 at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Tickets for the Atlanta area engagement, $55-$95, go on sale Friday via the venue's website here. The other three shows will be sold via Ticketmaster ($55 and $95 for N.C., $73 and $93 for W.V. and $49.50 and $124.50 for Pa.) with presales starting Thursday at 10 a.m. Eastern (the N.C. and W.V. show list "fan presale" and "Ticketmaster presale" with no further details; the Pa. show notes "venue/pens/social/corporate presale" and "radio/promoters presale") and general public sales starting Friday for N.C. and W.V. and Saturday for Pa. Dolly's The Tour Collection falls back off the top 20 British country compilation albums this week down from No. 20, Friday's charts showed, while her Ultimate re-enters the top 20 at No. 20. On the same tally, Emmylou Harris' Original Album Series, Volume 1 (with two Dolly covers, one track with Dolly harmony and one track with Trio harmony by Dolly and Linda Ronstadt) gains three to No. 9, and her Original Album Series, Vol. 2 (featuring one track with Dolly harmony and two tracks with Trio harmony) pushes up one to No. 16, while Ronstadt's own Original Album Series (featuring one Dolly cover and one track with Dolly harmony) drops two to No. 18.

'Coat' Wins Another Award
Dolly Parton's Coat Of Many Colors has won an honor from the 67th Annual Christopher Awards, it was announced this week. The Christian awards ceremony was founded in 1949 to celebrate writers, producers, directors, authors and illustrators whose work "affirms the highest values of the human spirit." Dolly is being recognized as executive producer of her project, which is one of five programs chosen for honors from television and cable. In addition to Dolly's film, a 20/20 segment "Escaping ISIS" from ABC News, the World Channel documentary ReFramed: If You Build It. TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show: My Friend The Priest and HBO's documentary Tashi and the Monk will be honored in that category. In film, Dolly's Rhinestone co-star Sylvester Stallone will receive an award for Creed as will filmmakers associated with The Drop Box, The Martian and Room. Several books will also be honored. The awards take place May 19 in New York City. Dolly said in a press release: "I love the Christopher Award slogan, 'Better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.' I personally believe that with all my heart. I think the movie, 'Coat of Many Colors,' a true story from my childhood, does throw a light on a lot of things like family, hope, love, kindness, understanding, and acceptance. It really spoke to the issue of bullying. I am very proud at how God works through me to shine a light, and to help heal a lot of hurt in a lot of people, and I am very proud of this award."

Night Of 1,000 Dollys To Return
The folks at Knoxville's Club XYZ have announced details for their sixth year hosting Night of 1,000 Dollys. Monique Alexander from Johnson City, Tenn., and Kourtney Paige Van Wells from Texas are slated to join Raz, Trixie, and Vanity for a gay ole time May 7, the night after Dolly's annual Pigeon Forge parade. This unofficial event features boobtacular decorations, professional Dolly impersonators in an 11:30 p.m. show, a Best Dolly costume contest at midnight, prizes and more. Check out a poster below.
