Dollywood Offers 'Coat' Rag Doll
Thanks to several fans who contacted me to alert the site that Dollywood on Thanksgiving started selling a limited edition "Coat Of Many Colors" rag doll to promote the movie, airing on NBC a week from Tuesday. I'm told the park is limited to the stock on hand, so when they sell out they're gone. They are retailing in the Emporium for $18 each. Thanks, Whitney, for the photo. In related news, The Oxford Eagle over the weekend posted an interview with local resident Sam Haskell, who produced the film and whose daughter plays Dolly's schoolteacher. Read it here.

Down Under, The Essential Dolly Parton logs an 86th week on the Australian top 40 country albums chart, moving up one to No. 25, Sunday's numbers showed.

Dolly Honors Joey & Rory
Dolly was among the artists paying tribute to duo Joey & Rory in a Thanksgiving special on RFD-TV honoring the married singing couple as Joey faces her final days of terminal cancer. The video is available on the network's website here or in the media player below.

Dolly On Cover Of 'First' Magazine
In somewhat related news, Black Friday shoppers were surprised to see Dolly on their stores' newsstands as the cover girl for the Dec. 15 issue of First for Women magazine in stores this week. The cover, featuring Dolly in holiday garb, promises "Dolly's Holiday Dos: Dolly Parton spills her secrets to looking and feeling great." The magazine's website expands on the article, saying "Country-music legend Dolly Parton reveals her surprisingly easy secrets to staying stress-free during the holidays—and all year. They'll work for you, too!"

U.K. Chart Updates
Dolly's Blue Smoke dips one place to return to No. 4 in the album's 77th week on the British country compilations albums chart, Friday's charts showed. On the same tally, Dolly's The Tour Collection gains five to No. 11, while Emmylou Harris' Original Album Series, Volume 1 (with two Dolly covers, one track with Dolly harmony and one track with Trio harmony by Dolly and Linda Ronstadt) and Original Album Series, Vol. 2 (featuring one track with Dolly harmony and two tracks with Trio harmony) both fall off the top 20, down from Nos. 13 and No. 19, respectively.

Nov. 26:
Three Out-Of-Print Albums Downloadable Dec. 11
Several out-of-print Dolly albums are coming to digital download for the first time next month. Legacy Recordings has announced a Dec. 11 digital release date for 1984's Rhinestone soundtrack, 1971's Joshua and 1984's The Great Pretender in addition to individual downloads of two other albums never before available digitally (and out-of-print on CD) although included in Dec. 4's The Collection 10-album digital download box set: 1967's Hello I'm Dolly and 1977's Here You Come Again. The date will also see a new digital download release of 1974's Jolene, also included in the box set but still available at many retailers on CD and previously released – and still available – for digital download.

'Coat Of Many Colors' Promotions Begin
Dolly has started promoting her upcoming autobiographical NBC movie Dolly Parton's Coat Of Many Colors, with an interview with Entertainment Tonight released Wednesday. Watch it here or in the media player below. Dolly also graces the cover of the new edition of Wow's View magazine cable tv guide, available in specific cable markets across 10 states, with an interview about "Coat Of Many Colors." Thanks, Richard! Also, NBC has scheduled her for two appearances on the network's Today show to promote the movie: the 7-9 a.m. period Tuesday, Dec. 8, and 9-10 a.m. segment Thursday, Dec. 10, the day the film airs. Knoxville TV station WBIR interviewed Dolly about the project here. Finally, Dolly's official music website's store at DollyPartonEntertainment on Wednesday revealed a line of limited edition merchandise inspired by the song.

Dollywood Christmas Named Second-Best Nationwide
The Travel Channel has named Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas as the second-best theme park attraction for the holidays after Disney World Magic Kingdom's Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party at No. 1. See the full list here.

Once Upon A Christmas, Dolly's 1984 holiday album with Kenny Rogers, rises three places to No. 9 country catalog albums in its 101st week on the chart, the Dec. 5 Billboard tallies showed, also gaining a dozen spots to No. 50 Canadian pop albums. Its track "Hard Candy Christmas" by Dolly re-enters the holiday digital songs sales list at No. 44. Dolly and Brad Paisley's duet "When I Get Where I'm Going" falls off the Christian digital sales chart, down from No. 49. Country Faith Christmas, featuring Dolly's 1990 recording of "Joy To The World," moves up 11 to No. 39 country albums in its second week. Rhonda Vincent's holiday collection, Christmas Time, with Dolly and several other guests on "The Twelve Days Of Christmas," stays at No. 2 bluegrass albums in its third week, dropping 12 to No. 48 Christian albums, three to No. 21 heatseekers albums and off the Christian and gospel albums chart, down from No. 43. Dolly 'Coat Of Many Colors' Tree At Opryland Hotel
For the second year, Nashville's Opryland Hotel has included Dolly in its charity Parade of Trees event. To celebrate her NBC holiday film based on "Coat Of Many Colors," this year Dolly has designed and donated a tree inspired by the song along with four season passes to Dollywood, three nights and spa certificate at the park's new DreamMore Resort, four tickets to the Dixie Stampede, four tickets to Dolly's new Lumberjack Feud dinner theatre and an autographed lyric sheet for "Coat Of Many Colors." The estimated value of the package is $1,500 but as of press time the leading bid was only $250. The auction ends on Jan. 2 and the tree remains on display in the hotel's Cascades Atrium, where it may be viewed for free, until the auction ends. Place your bid here.

'Essential' Remains On Charts Down Under
Down Under, The Essential Dolly Parton logs an 85th week on the Australian top 40 country albums chart, gaining six spots to No. 26, Sunday's numbers showed.

Nov. 21:
Ten-Album Dolly Digital Set Coming Next Month
Dolly appears scheduled to have a multi-album "digital box set" coming out from Sony's Legacy Recordings on Dec. 4 with her own installment in the label's The Collection series, which combines several of an artist's digital studio albums into one, Dollymania.net is the first to report. For example, the Brad Paisley collection released by the label in 2011 retails for about $50 and contains nine of his full-length albums. Dolly's collection will apparently contain 10 entire albums and run just over five hours long. The specific albums to be included have not been announced, but Dollymania.net has learned the titles of seven of the songs which will supposedly appear on the set and they include two tracks from The Bargain Store, one from My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy, one from Love Is Like A Butterfly, two from New Harvest, First Gathering and one from Hello I'm Dolly, so it would appear that those are five of the 10 featured albums. Four of those are already available digitally for download as individual albums, but her 1967 Monument Records debut Hello I'm Dolly is out of print and not currently available digitally. Sony, Legacy's parent company, owns all of her Monument, RCA, and Columbia recordings, almost everything she recorded between 1965 and 1995 except for the Trio project, so that's close to 40 total solo albums to choose from for the collection, not including any "best of" compilations. UPDATE: On Saturday morning, Amazon.com released the track listing for the project and price, $49.99. You'll be able to order the set here! Along with the five albums noted above, the set contains downloads of Jolene, All I Can Do, Here You Come Again, Heartbreaker and 9 To 5 And Odd Jobs but does not contain any of the bonus tracks on any of the albums' recent re-releases. This will mark the first digital download availability of Here You Come Again, which is also out of print as a CD. Legacy's Collection series is only released digitally, so physical CDs of the boxed set will not be available.

'It's A Wonderful Life' Coming To Dollywood
Dolly's theme park appears to be getting its own musical stage version of Frank Capra's classic holiday film about George Bailey and his angel-in-training, this site is the first to report. A casting notice released by Dollywood Entertainment this week calls for 2016 season performers for Dreamland Drive-In, Country Crossroads, Dolly Parton's My People, The Gem Tones, Little Engine Playhouse, Christmas In The Smokies, O Holy Night, Twas The Night Before Christmas and – revealed for the first time -- Dollywood's It's A Wonderful Life. No further details on the show are known, although Dollywood's sister park Silver Dollar City has had its own It's A Wonderful Life stage musical for some time. Auditions for the shows are scheduled Jan. 9 in Atlanta and Feb. 20 in Spartanburg, S.C. Presumably, the new show will at next year's Smoky Mountain Christmas replace Dollywood's A Christmas Carol, which concludes its three-year run this season. That show, which featured seven new Dolly compositions, presented each of the ghosts of the story as holograms – including Dolly herself as the Ghost of Christmas Past. This week it won its second-in-a-row Brass Ring Award from the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions at its annual industry gathering, taking the prize for Best Overall Production with a production budget of $400,000-$700,000.

Dolly Fan Opera Gets New York Performance
The Observer reported this week on three new operas that opened simultaneously in New York City, including Heartbreak Express, which started an eight-day run last Saturday at Rhymes With Opera. The development of the opera about four Dolly fans meeting their idol, and a concert performance of it last year, have previously been noted on this site. The new article reports that librettist John Clum was inspired by the fan documentary For The Love Of Dolly (which features Dolly feeding your webmaster banana pudding as one of the special features of the DVD) and loosely based his four characters on fans Jeanette Williams, Melisa Rastellini, Harrell Gabehart and Patric Parkey from the film. People magazine's current issue, with the sexiest man alive cover, has a profile of the young actress playing Dolly in her Dec. 10 NBC autobiographical movie Coat Of Many Colors, Alyvia Alyn Lind. Check out a preview here.

Celtic Music Show Highlights Dolly
Public radio's Celtic music program The Thistle & Shamrock this week took a look at music flowing between the old world and America, from old ballads that took centuries to make the journey to new music that moves across the ocean instantaneously. To illustrate the former, they opened the show with Dolly's live recording of "Barbara Allen" with Altan's lead singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh from her 1994 CD Heartsongs: Live From Home. Billboard magazine has released several "best" lists over the past week to celebrate its all-time chart performance lists in its current issue, and one of the lists was the Best Country Artists of All Time, which featured Dolly at No. 5 (No. 1 female) after No. 1 Merle Haggard, No. 2 Johnny Cash, No. 3 Willie Nelson and No. 4 Hank Williams but ahead of No. 6 George Jones, No. 7 Waylon Jennings, No. 8 George Strait, No. 9 Loretta Lynn and No. 10 Garth Brooks. A Few Details On Travel Show Emerge
Details of what Dolly and television journalist Peter Greenberg were doing around Tennessee a few weeks ago came out last week in a press release confirming, as was previously reported here, their work on a new Brand USA travel series where celebrities profile their home states. The press release notes they spent two days filming in Nashville and the Pigeon Forge area including the Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Arnold's, RCA Studio B, Dollywood and its DreamMore Resort and her statue in Sevierville. The documentary, "expected to air internationally in multiple markets in 2016," also looks at Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Northeast Tennessee.

Dolly Meets Eagle Book Authors
Southwest Virginia Today last week took a look at The American Eagle Foundation's children's storybook from 2013 about Challenger the eagle which features Dolly narrating the story on CD because the book's authors got to meet Dolly at Dollywood in August. Jonathan Ross Has Guests Sing Dolly For Absent Guest
What do you do when your talk show's musical guest doesn't show up? Get Joan Collins, Danny DeVito and Sheridan Smith to cover Dolly's "9 To 5." That's what Britian's Jonathan Ross did. When singer Ariana Grande failed to leave her hotel to appear on his program taped on Friday, he apparently convinced the other three guests of the evening to do Dolly karaoke instead – after cursing out the no-show guest on air. That wasn't the only Dolly-related social media viral posting from Thursday, as Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton shared across her social media networks a "Throwback Thursday" picture from a 1995 birthday party she had in the White House where she said she celebrated with a Dolly theme, and she is shown dressed in her version of Dolly drag while President Bill Clinton stands next to her in his version of country clothing. Smoky Mountain Christmas Starts Saturday With Dolly Hologram's Final Year
Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Christmas festival kicks off Saturday with the return of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, 4 million lights, special entertainment and special food selections. The festival, which has won first place for the Golden Ticket Awards as Best Christmas Event for seven consecutive years, concludes Jan. 3 when the park's 2015 season closes. Unfortunately, Dollywood's A Christmas Carol featuring the hologram of Dolly herself as the Ghost of Christmas Past and songs written by Dolly will see its final season this year before the show is retired. In a press release, Dolly observed: "I'm so proud of the work everyone puts in to making Christmas such a special time for families at my Dollywood. They start putting up Christmas lights in July! It's so beautiful and truly is the most special time of year to visit. Our entertainment team does an amazing job with all of the great shows they perform at Christmas. Why I hear they're even going to bring back the hologram version of me one more time so you can see 'the other Dolly' remind ol' Scrooge what Christmas is all about!" Suggested Library Donation Not Popular
In Nottingham, England, the city council has started recommending that forgetful staff members who leave their ID badges at home and have to request temporary ones from the security desk, creating a bottleneck for employees behind them wishing to pass through security to enter their office building, should make a voluntary £1 donation to Dolly's Imagination Library literacy program in the city. TMZ: Dollywood Says Woman Jumped From Ride
TMZ reports that Dollywood has responded to a lawsuit from a woman claiming she fell out of the park's swings ride and suffered brain damage. According to the media outlet, the park alleges the woman jumped from the ride, causing her own injuries, rather than her claim that the ride malfunctioned. Read more here.

Dolly, meanwhile, was spotted over the weekend around the Pigeon Forge area, according to Facebook reports, and was staying on her bus at her dedicated private bus pad at Dollywood's DreamMore Resort.

A new movie featuring a Dolly subplot was released on Friday. Several reviewers, including The Hollywood Reporter here, noted that Scout's Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse features a scout master who is obsessed with Dolly, leading to a murder scene set to a recording of Dolly singing "9 To 5."

A capella group Home Free, who won season four of The Sing Off, have released a music video for their cover of Dolly's "9 to 5," which it was previously reported here appears on their album Country Evolution that came out in September. Watch it here or in the media player below.
